We are happy to announce the winners of our summer science camp scholarships: Tanja Smardzic and Olivia Petersen.  Both girls will attend a week long science summer camp and Maine School of Science and Mathematics in Limestone, Maine this summer. You can learn more about MSSM summer camps here.

The BioME summer camp scholarship is available to students attending schools that participate in ME Bioscience Day, a state-wide one day event organized by BioME when Maine scientists and bioscience employees visit local middle schools to talk about science and inspire young minds. Our next ME Bioscience Day is on November 7, 2018. If you are interested in presenting in front of students on that day, please contact us.

Olivia will be a freshman at South Portland High School this fall. She is a member of several bands including the high school marching band, honors band, performance jazz band and the concert band.She plays four instruments and has multiple accomplishments on her Alto Saxophone. She enjoys school and is always looking to be challenged academically. She enjoys boating, hiking and the family’s dogs and cats.

Tanja likes to play soccer, and hang out with her friends. Her favorite subjects in school are Math and Science and she has big dreams of becoming an oncologist. She loves school and learning. She likes to swim with her family and friends in her pool, she also loves to learn about new cultures and speak new languages. Tanja is a French learner at school, and wants to keep learning more and more. She plays the tenor saxophone in my school band, and jazz band.  She attends Memorial Middle School in South Portland.
