BioME works closely with colleges and educational institutions to support the best possible educational opportunities for future life science workforce in Maine. BioME offers a wide range of educational opportunities including ME Bioscience Day, BioME Student Showcase and BioME Scholarship Program.

Members receive a unique chance to participate in ME Bioscience Day – an annual event that brings together life science companies and middle school students in Maine. Through this initiative members can give back to community, and increase the awareness of their company and the industry.

Our annual BioME Student Showcase provides Maine high school and college students with an exciting opportunity to show off their passion for life science and present their research for a chance to win cash and academic prizes. Through this event, members are able to help to support innovation and commercialization of student ideas in Maine, as well as connect current students with potential future employers and entrepreneurial resources in the state.

The BioME Scholarship Program offers an opportunity for high school graduates, undergraduates, and graduate students majoring in the life sciences to realize and accomplish their academic goals. This program was designed to help advance Maine students’ academic and professional careers in the field of bioscience, as well as enhance workforce development within Maine’s life sciences industry.

Public Policy & Advocacy

BioME works in a non-partisan manner with our members, policy members, partners and the public to:

  • Monitor current state legislation that affects our members and the life science community in Maine.
  • Educate policy makers and government agencies on state economy, needs, challenges and legislative priorities.
  • Inform our membership and the general public on current legislation that may affect the life science industry in Maine.
  • Collaborate with partners, policymakers and other organizations for positive life science advocacy outcomes.

BioME actively advocates for statewide development and investment in Maine’s bioscience industry, including advocacy activities that build support for the industry with state, local and federal governments and influence key legislation. BioME’s annual Legislative Reception brings together life sciences executives from Portland to Presque Isle to collectively educate and inform State legislators on issues of critical importance to the industry.
